A California resident was targeted in an elaborate online investment scam after being contacted on WhatsApp by a man introducing himself as “Chris.” Claiming to be an engineer with experience in crypto trading, Chris persuaded the victim to download a wallet app and sign up on bkchaintops.com.
Over the next two months, Chris manipulated the individual into sending funds to a bank in Vietnam under the guise of investing. Initial small deposits appeared to grow, creating a false sense of security. Encouraged by these results and constant pressure from Chris, the victim continued to transfer larger sums. At one point, the platform even threatened to freeze the account unless more money was deposited, which led the victim to sign up for an unnecessary subscription.
When the victim eventually tried to withdraw their money, the platform stalled with a never-ending “processing” status. Soon after, supposed customer service agents accused the victim of money laundering and demanded another payment — 30% of the account balance — to “unlock” the funds. The site then disappeared, leaving the victim facing losses of more than $300,000.
This could have been the end of the story — but it wasn’t. The victim reached out to ScamBrokerWatch, our platform dedicated to assisting fraud victims. ScamBrokerWatch not only guided the victim through the recovery process but also provided the tools and expertise needed to reclaim the stolen funds. Thanks to their intervention, what seemed like a hopeless situation turned into a rare success story where the victim was able to get their money back.
